How does Biocal-D work?

Biocal-D treats low blood calcium levels and related conditions like Vitamin D deficiency, osteoporosis, and osteomalacia. It contains Calcium for bone formation and Vitamin D3 for calcium absorption and bone health.

Side Effects of Biocal-D Tablet

Biocal-D Tablet is generally well tolerated, but if symptoms like nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, dry mouth, increased thirst, and increased urination occur, they should be reported to a physician. Constipation may also occur.

Quick Suggestions:

• Include dairy products like milk, yogurt, cheese, or milk-based custard in your diet.
• Eat daily a serving of broccoli, cabbage, bok choy, spinach, and other green leafy vegetables.
• Include the best dietary sources of vitamin D, such as fish liver oils and vitamin D–fortified milk.
• Sprinkle sesame seeds over your food, vegetables, and salads. Sesame seeds are high in calcium.
• Avoid or reduce the intake of caffeine, soft drinks, and alcohol that inhibit calcium absorption.
• Replace the meat with tofu or tempeh for extra calcium in your food.

Indications of Biocal-D Tablet:

This combination is used for the treatment of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, tetany, and parathyroid disease. It is also utilized as a calcium supplement to ensure adequate dietary intake in conditions such as pregnancy and lactation, osteogenesis and tooth formation (as an adjunct with definite treatment), therapy with anti-seizure medications, and as a routine supplement and phosphate binder in chronic renal failure.

Pharmacology

Biocal-D Tablet contains Calcium Carbonate and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol). Calcium is essential for many normal functions of the body, especially bone formation and maintenance, while Vitamin D3 aids in the absorption and reabsorption of Calcium and stimulates bone formation. Clinical studies have shown that the combination of Calcium and Vitamin D3 helps in bone growth and in the prevention of osteoporosis and bone fractures.

Dosage & Administration of Biocal-D

The usual adult dose is 1 tablet in the morning and 1 tablet at night, taken orally.

Interaction

Biocal-D Tablet may interact with calcium, aluminum, or magnesium-containing antacids and other calcium supplements, calcitriol, and other vitamin D3 supplements, as well as with digoxin, tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, or oxytetracycline.

Contraindications:

It is contraindicated in cases of hypercalcemia, hyperthyroidism, renal calculi and nephrolithiasis, and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This combination should be used as directed by a physician during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings

Precautions should be taken in individuals with pre-existing heart disease or kidney disease.
